An exhibition on Piero della Francesca, one of the greatest 15th century Italian artists, a pioneer of Italian Renaissance, a "maestro" who had a fundamental role in the development of Italian painting.
Discovering Piero in his land
The colours and rhythms of the area around Arezzo come back to life in Piero della Francesca’s works, giving evidence of his love and strong relationship with his native land, which he often visited in spite of his extensive travelling, and where he left his most famous masterpieces:
Piero della Francesca
Tuscan at birth and heart, Piero della Francesca spread his activity throughout central Italy. He was trained in Florence, where he worked as a pupil and collaborator of Domenico Veneziano. He spent most of his life in Arezzo, he worked in Ferrara at the Estensi Court, in Rimini at the Malatesta’s, at the Courts of the Dukes of Urbino and Rome, and for Pope Nicholas V and Pius II.
